The Lummis Day Community Foundation, Inc., has evolved over the last 6 years and is now a non-profit with the designation as an education organization because of the emphasis placed on building community.

We begin with the River Runs Through It: Charles Lummis and the Culture of the Arroyo workshop for teachers on February 12 and 26, 2011, that brings teachers from all over Los Angeles who interact with Northeast Los Angeles instructors from the Arroyo Seco Foundation, the Wilderness Magazine, Audubon Center, the Lummis Home, Heritage Square Museum, Highland Park Heritage Trust Walking Tour, and Friends of the Los Angeles River.

We have two fund raisers, the first on February 12, 2011, with the cooperation of the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts, featuring When Worlds Collide, a documentary, and the May 7, 2011 fund raiser at the Lummis Home, which is in the style of Charles Fletcher Lummis emphasizing the culture of the of the Northeast Communities.

In May, there will be three Saturday poetry workshops conducted at the Autry, and the Arroyo Seco and Eagle Rock Branch Libraries, which attract families, as well as up and coming poets, with an emphasis on familiarizing participants with the role of poetry in the greater Los Angeles literary and arts community

The culminating Festival, on June 5, 2011, at the two venues, the Lummis Home, where we have poetry reading, arts and crafts and an art display, and the Heritage Square Museum, where we will have tours of at least one of the homes, activities for children and families, community booths, and food service, as well as the music and dance program, bring a fitting end to the season of activities.

All sponsors, including the Neighborhood Councils in the area, will receive appropriate recognition online and in print.
